Let's Talk 2022 Colors of the Year!

2022 is here and we are happily looking around and soaking in all the inspiration from the color and trend forecasts related to all things interior design! Last year, as we compiled the color trends for 2021 we couldn't help but think about how different everyone's color of the year selection was. This year, as we gathered the color of the year from these same sources, the human behind this post (hi, I'm Wendy!) giggled all the way as the colors from each of these color experts seemed to fall into two different color families: periwinkle and grey-green.  To even further our amazement, it makes sense that these two categories were so similar in their hues with the periwinkle selections coming from global color experts whose product lines range in everything from electronics, fashion, industrial and product design, home accents, etc., and the gray-green selections coming from color experts with paint manufacturers which are widely used in a home.

Evoking feelings of relaxation, restoration, nature and freshness, gray-green helps us feel grounded while setting a soothing yet lively mood in interiors. We're loving gray-green for its versatility which allows it to be at home indoors and out, as well as its connection to nature, its natural elegance, as well as how it evokes a sense of organic playfulness in a room.

Periwinkle on the other hand, introduces a bolder color for these times of transition in 2022.  Inspiring creativity, optimism, growth, courage, new beginnings and perseverance, periwinkle both calms and stimulates in a variety of applications, having a versatility that allows for a welcoming and energized feel that still has a connection to nature, echoes friendliness and hope.

Let's dive in and take a closer look at six of the color experts we constantly turn to for color wisdom, as well as get inspired and learn how we can easily incorporate these colors into our own homes and workplaces!

Put Color Trends Into Practice : 60-30-10 Style

Not sure where, or how, to start incorporating color trends into your home? Try starting by using the 60-30-10 Design Rule for creating a color palette for your home. The 60-30-10 rule is a design principle that calls for 60% of a room to be the dominant color, 30% the secondary color, and 10% the accent color. The idea is to help you create and maintain a sense of balance through your interior color palette, and help the eye take in the space more comfortably as it looks from one focal point to the next. The 60-30-10 rule is simple to use, and factors in all your architectural and decor elements like your walls, draperies, furniture, furnishings and home accents.
